Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has extended his contract with the Bundesliga champions until 2026, as officially announced by the club.
Goretzka attracted interest from several top clubs this summer, including Manchester United and Real Madrid. However, United could not make a bid to sign the German international this year and now have zero chances of recruiting him as a free agent in 2022.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, arranged a surprise transfer for Eduardo Camavinga on the final day of the transfer window. As a result, they have no need of the Bayern Munich man anymore since Camavinga is the long-term solution to the box-to-box role in the team.
“I’ve won all there is to win with Bayern in the last three years,” he said.
“But we want to repeat these triumphs and successes.
“That’s what I want to focus on over the coming years.
“We are not just professionals here, but family.
“That’s one of the guarantees of success.
“I am very happy to have been able to extend my contract to 2026.”
Julian Nagelsmann was a key part for the Bayern Munich number 8 to extend his contract. Goretzka joined Bayern from Schalke a few years ago as a free agent, and has since established himself as a regular in midfield. His partnership with Joshua Kimmich in the middle of the park has been key to the success of the team in recent years.
Kimmich’s deal was also extended by Bayern in August, and they have now tied down their key midfielders to the club for the next few years at the very least.
