Barcelona 0-3 Bayern Munich: Lewandowski and Muller continue horror show for Barcelona at Camp Nou

Bayern Munich defeated Barcelona 3-0 at Camp Nou to kick off their Champions League campaign strongly. The Bavarians continue their unbeaten run of 19 games away in the competition, which is the longest of its kind in history.

Thomas Muller scored his seventh goal against Barcelona in six meetings to open the scoring. The 32-year-old has scored the most number of goals in the Champions League against Barcelona, reminiscent of the 8-2 victory they had one year ago over the Spanish club.

Robert Lewandowski was involved in two goals in the second half, showing his goalscoring instinct by tapping both opportunities past Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The first goal for the number 9 came 55 minutes into the game, after he pounced on a rebound shot originally by Jamal Musiala. The second goal came after he poached an opportunity that was deflected off the post.

Barcelona failed to register a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes. This is the first time such a stat has come out of a game since the 2003/04 season. In all competitions, Barcelona have not had such a poor offensive display since 2009.

Towards the end of the game, the Barcelona players looked defeated and their body language showed it. The players were slouched over, and had little energy in the game. The only silver lining was to see young players like Yusuf Demir and Alejandro Balde get minutes in the competition.

However, if this is the sign of things to come for the Blaugrana this season, the meeting in Germany will not end much better.
