AMD adds 17 new PCI Ids for AMD RDNA2 GPUs in Linux Kernel: A refresh incoming?

According to sources, an additional 17 PCI IDs for AMD RDNA 2 GPUs including Navi 21, Navi 22 & Navi 23 have been added to the Linux kernel graphics driver. However, AMD is yet to reveal the reason behind this addition of the seventeen PCI Ids, however, it’s odd that due to a large number of PCI IDs already in previous patches.

Many claims that it may be possible that AMD is planning for more RDNA2 graphics cards to be launch in the market but it is noted that companies do set aside a group of IDs that could be used for “engineering models,” that are added for future models that have yet to be released.

The IDs add five Sienna Cichlid, five Navy Flounder, and seven Dimgrey Cavefish PCI IDs.

  • Sienna Cichlid (0x73A5, 0x73A8, 0x73A9, 0x73AC, 0x73AD)
  • Navy Flounder (0x73DA, 0x73DB, 0x73DC, 0x73DD, 0x73DE)
  • Dimgrey Cavefish (0x73E8, 0x73E9, 0x73EA, 0x73EB, 0x73EC, 0x73ED, 0x73EF)

there might be a possible refresh of RDNA2s, the Navi 22, 23, and 24 GPUs from AMD which the manufacturer could launch in conjunction with the new Navi 3X RDNA3 lines. However, for now, these are all nothing but speculations. There are also rumors that AMD is planning to release three Navi 3X GPUs along with a refresh of AMD’s current graphics card lines utilizing an optimized 6nm process node.

Currently, there are not many details about the new entries except for rumors and speculations, but the new AMD Navi 3X lines should start to appear within the next year.
