We have seen the latest reviews on the Internet suggesting that AMD’s RX 6600 Xt shows relatively low power consumption compared to other graphics cards. however to whether this information is accurate remains to be seen, But one thing is to confirm from the sources that some of the media outlets have you reuse data from older reviews such as from ComputerBase.
ComputerBase has used power consumption measurement data from each consecutive launch meaning that those specific tests were performed using the launch drivers of the graphics card.
When this information was revealed many on the internet decided to test other graphics cards using the same drivers. And when this was done it was discovered that the launch drivers lowered the consumption on the other SKUs as well.
Reportedly the biggest difference in the power consumption was witnessed when YouTube was played at 4K resolution in 60fps playback During which the high power graphics are such as RX 6700 XT reported A reduction in the power consumption from 30w to 18w. even the RX 6900 XT reported a drop from 42 to 30w.
This was an extremely fruitful test conducted using the older drivers however when the time came of using HDR mode then there was no improvement at all. Some graphic cards showed at least 1w of increase however the RX 6700 XT didn’t even show a single flinch.
There is another big issue with the RDNA2 graphics cards which AMD needs to solve as soon as possible. This issue is the high power consumption of the graphics cards at a 4K multi-monitor setup. in this range, Nvidia is much better when compared to AMD. the latest drivers released by AMD also sadly could not fix this issue. As for whether the power consumption will be fixed in the further updates remains to be seen. For more information stay tuned.
