IOC President Thomas Bach declared the Tokyo 2020 Olympics ended on Sunday, calling the pandemic-affected games the hardest Olympic adventure. The 2020 Summer Olympics is an international sporting event that will take place in Tokyo, Japan, from July 23 to August 8, 2021. The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics were initially scheduled to take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020, but were postponed owing to the continuing Covid-19 Pandemic.

At the Tokyo closing ceremony on Sunday, the Olympic flag was presented to Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo for the 2024 Games. Hidalgo received the flag, which was adorned with the five Olympic rings, from International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach and waved it.

It represents the official handing over of the torch from the current host to the next.
