Mumbai City FC have completed the signing of Igor Angulo, as announced by them on their social accounts. The 37-year-old was extremely impressive last season, winning the Golden Boot for FC Goa and taking them to the semi finals of the tournament.
The player was scouted extensively by Odisha FC and was very close to signing with them before the Islanders swooped in. And that is the reason why the announcement of his arrival was met with a lot of surprise from fans of the club. Mumbai now have their first foreign signing of the transfer window.
Moroccan midfielder Ahmed Jahouh and Senegalese defender Mourtada Fall are a part of the international contingent of the reigning champions alongside Agulo, who comes from Spain. The veteran has signed a single year deal with Mumbai, which will expire in 2022. Mumbai have also let Adam Le Fondre and Bartholomew Ogbeche leave the club, but have a proven goalscorer in Angulo to help lead the attack.
“We have a massive season ahead of us. It will be an honour to defend both our trophies and represent India in the AFC Champions League and I’m ready for the challenge,” he said.
While his age might be a worrying factor, he has shown that he can perform well under the circumstances in India and can be counted on to deliver for the champions as they prepare to defend their title.
