Sri Lanka defeated India in the 3rd and final T20 international between the two teams to win the series 2-1 after a remarkable performance from the hosts.
India were restricted to a total of 81/8 in 20 overs, registering one of the lowest scores in T20 internationals. For India, this was their lowest T20 score of all time. The highest scorer from the Indian batting line-up was Kuldeep Yadav who managed to put 23 runs on the board from 28 deliveries.
Shikhar Dhawan became the first Indian captain to score a golden duck in T20 internationals, as he was dismissed on his first delivery from Dushmantha Chameera, following an outside edge and a great catch by Dhananjaya de Silva at first slip to hit India with their first major blow.
However, the star of the match was birthday boy Wanindu Hasaranga. The spinner had a figure of 4/9 by the end of his four-over spell, which is the best bowling spell from a player on their birthday. The day was even sweeter for him since he was on the pitch when his team won the game. Hasaranga contributed 14 runs from 9 balls to further cement a man of the match performance.
The match was ultimately won via an extra, as Varun Chakravarthy bowled wide to Dhananjaya de Silva. Despite appeals for an edge, the umpire spread his hands and Sri Lanka won the match by 7 wickets with 33 deliveries to spare.
