This Wednesday, Deepika Kumari has defeated American archer Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez in the current Tokyo Olympics at the Yumenoshima Ranking Field. Deepika Kumari defeated her American opponent by 6-4 in the 1/16 eliminations round.
Kumari was unable to perform well in the first set as she scored 25 while her opponent Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez scored 26 and secured the first set victory 0-2.
However, Deepika Kumari made a comeback in the second set and levelled the score 2-2. From there on Deepika Kumari maintained her flow and form and took the lead in the third set and the score stood at 4-2.
Then after which US archer Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez levelled the scoreline and brought the score at 4-4 in the fourth set and thus the match progressed in the fifth round and was also the deciding set.
In the deciding set, Deepika Kumari held her head and was composed and therefore managed to win the set ergo won the match in the final set. And went into the 1/8th round of the tournament.
Before that Deepika Kumari won the first round of the tournament against Bhutan’s Bhu Karna at the Yumenoshima Ranking Field on the same day.
The Indian mixed team consisting of Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav lost the quarter-final of the archery mixed team event against the South Korean mixed team consisting of An San and Kim Je Deok.
