PSG have been in talks with Kylian Mbappe and his entourage for a contract extension for a very long time. However, according to Marca, the player is set to inform the officials of the club that he will not be extending his deal with them.
Mbappe will not try to force a transfer this summer out of respect for the club, but might have to be sold anyway. He only has one year left on his current deal, and will depart as a free agent next summer if nobody comes up to sign him this summer, or he can’t negotiate a new contract.
Real Madrid have been linked with the French forward for years, and are currently in a difficult financial situation. So, the news of Mbappe willing to leave the club voluntarily will be great for them to try and swoop in for their man now. Madrid have refrained from spending in the transfer window for a year now, and could break the bank to sign the PSG star this summer after a quiet spell so far.
But considering that Madrid are financially strapped, bids from Premier League clubs who are also interested in him could materialise. Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are in the market for a forward, and could finance the transfer if PSG will indeed resort to selling their star player.
The decision will come as a huge blow to Mauricio Pochettino, and will surely dent the French club’s hopes of winning the Champions League this time around despite their numerous high-profile acquisitions.
