Mino Raiola’s agent fee stands in way of Chelsea’s Haaland pursuit

Erling Haaland

Chelsea have been linked with Erling Haaland throughout the transfer window so far, but are yet to submit a formal bid for the player. Dortmund were always clear on their stance surrounding their number 9, that he was not for sale this summer.

But according to rumours, Chelsea are willing to bid €175 million to secure the Norwegian wonderkid, who only just turned 21. Even if Roman Abramovich releases the funds needed to sign the striker, one major factor sits in Chelsea’s way of getting their man, and that is Mino Raiola and his demand of €40 million as commission to make the transfer happen.

Whether or not Chelsea will choose to pay a fourth of the fee as agent fees is something that remains to be seen. By the looks of things, Haaland looks set to stay at Dortmund this summer and will be an integral part of Marco Rose’s plans for the season coming up. However, the failed transfer will not be because Chelsea didn’t try hard enough. There will also not be any underhanded tactics to blame the Blues for.

Dortmund’s decision to reject the massive bid will purely be because they wanted to keep hold of their player at all costs. This also means that they will let him leave next summer for €75 million, since his release clause officially kicks in starting from 2022 and it is a fee that most major clubs can afford to pay.
