Connor McGregor was defeated by Dustin Poirier in the third encounter between the two fighters at UFC 264. But more importantly, the Irishman sustained a nasty injury to his leg to end the match.

“I wonder if he will ever fight again after this, it’s terrible,” Jon Jones said on social media.

“He broke it on one of the checks, at the start of the fight and it broke on one blow, for sure,” Poirier said.

This is the first time Conor McGregor has lost back-to-back fights in his career.

This was McGregor’s first fight since January, and it ended in horrific fashion for him as the doctors ruled him out of the match with a broken leg. Dana White has confirmed that the two fighters will meet for a fourth time in the future, but it will be a while before we see McGregor in the Octagon again since he will have to recover from this injury first.

“Lower tibia. The shin, I guess,” White said. “I don’t know how the f*** they figured that out that quick.”

“It’s all about timing, what’s going on, what’s happens since then. Conor goes into surgery tomorrow [Sunday]. We don’t know long how he’s going to be out. How much his rehab and therapy he’s going to need.”

McGregor has also talked about the defeat in an interview with Joe Rogan, saying “I was boxing the bleedin’ head off him and kicking the bleedin’ leg off him. Usual shite, [he] dived to close the distance. THIS IS NOT OVER! If I have to take this outside with him, it’s on outside. I don’t give a bollocks.”

While no timeframe has been placed on his return just yet, fans will be eagerly in wait for the fourth encounter between the two fighters in the future.
