On Saturday, Ashleigh Barty won the Wimbledon women’s singles title. She did so by defeating Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 to capture her second Grand Slam title. Since Evonne Goolagong in 1980, Barty is the first Australian woman to win Wimbledon.

The 25-year-old Australian has continued to dominate the tennis circuit in 2021, having last won a Grand Slam in 2018. In the opening set, both women were unable to hold their serves, but Barty was more regularly able to win on her first serve.

Pliskova, the eighth seed, failed to score in the first three games and then double-faulted on break point to give Barty a 4-0 lead in the first set. In the following game, Pliskova broke Barty for the second time at love, then dropped her service before breaking her again. Barty ultimately held serve for the first time before serving out the set.

The Czech Republic player defeated Ash Barty in the second set of the women’s Wimbledon final. Pliskova fought back from two sets behind to win 7-6 (4) and tie the match. After sprinting out to a 4-0 lead, Barty dominated the first set 6-3.

Pliskova appeared more composed in the second set, despite giving Barty a break for 6-5 after leading 40-0. However, when it came time to serve out the match, Barty seemed rather faltered, which was visible when she went on missing three forehands.

The former world number one led 6-2 in the tiebreaker and clinched the match when Barty double-faulted. When it came to the third set, Barty took the lead early again. This helped her earn a break point on Pliskova’s first serve of the set. Despite the Czech’s persistent attempts to reclaim a break point, Barty was able to hold her serve in the last games and win the match.
