Real Madrid have finally signed highly-regarded Japanese wonderkid Takefusa Kubo from FC Tokyo for €2m.
Takefusa Kubo was previously at Barcelona’s academy and has been dubbed the ‘Japanese Messi’. Barcelona tried to sign him in 2014 but had their efforts curtailed by a FIFA ban.
The 18-year-old is considered as one of Asia’s most exciting young talents. He made his full Japan debut this month. Kubo is also a part of the Japan squad for the Copa America 2019.
Los Blancos announced on Friday that Kubo has signed for the club and will represent their Castilla side next season after agreeing on a five-year deal. He is set to receive a salary of €1m per season. Real Madrid described Kubo in a club statement as “one of the most promising young players in world football”.
Kubo made his J.League debut at the age of just 15. The attacking midfielder has enjoyed an impressive year so far with FC Tokyo, where he caught Real Madrid’s attention. He has played a total of 16 games in all competitions and scored five goals. FC Tokyo has received €2m for the transfer.
Following an underwhelming campaign, Zinedine Zidane has boosted his squad by the arrivals of Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes. Real Madrid now looks a strong team on paper and ready again to challenge for the LaLiga and the Champions League titles in the next season.
