Well, the whole chip industry is excited about Samsung’s upcoming SoC that will be housing AMD’s mRDNA2 GPU for the first time! This brings huge possibilities and game-changing performance improvements we never expected, so the first product, dubbed as Exynos 2200, will be launching this month itself as per ITHome.
It’s not that Samsung will exclusively use the new SoC for their own products but also mass produce it to ship to other handset makers. The previous Exynos 2100 too was extremely close to the Snapdragon 888 in terms of CPU performance, and the only drawback from the chip was the Mali GPU, and this weakness could be overcome with the AMD RDNA2 GPU.
Vivo is known to use Samsung SoCs, and it is rumoured that it could also be using the upcoming Exynos 2200 with AMD’s mRDNA2 GPU. Both the Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 895 are rumoured to be made on Samsung’s 4nm process. According to sources, the new Exynos chipset paired with an AMD GPU was tested, and the test was done on the older Cortex-A77 architecture.
If you ask about GPU performance, this leak says that the mRDNA2 GPU easily beats the Exynos 2100, Snapdragon 888 and yes, even the A14 Bionic. The latest rumours go on to say that Vivo may be the first to launch a mass-produced model powered by Exynos 2200.
In the performance leaked we talked about, the AMD Radeon GPU and Cortex-A77 CPU scored 8134 points in the 3DMark Wild Life benchmark. However, it’s worth noting that the final Exynos 2200 chipset will switch to ARM’s latest Cortex-X2 and Cortex-A710 CPU cores that will be much faster than the Cortex-A77 core used in the above test.
The upcoming Samsung Exynos 2200 is an exciting prospect that could revolutionize the mobile gaming industry, and AMD could be a pioneer in that. Just imagine features like Raytracing, AMD’s FSR, Antilag and other notable features coming to smartphones!
