Lee Jung Jae and Mun Ka Young Eye “Sparrow”: Choi Dong Hoon’s Spy-Crime Return

Korean cinema fans, brace yourselves. A reunion 11 years in the making may be on the way. Lee Jung Jae is reportedly considering director Choi Dong Hoon’s new film Sparrow (literal title), and Mun Ka Young has also been offered a role.

What We Know So Far?

On October 22, 2026, Korean outlet Max Movie reported that Lee Jung Jae received an offer to star in the film and showed interest. His agency, Artist Company, confirmed the offer but kept it measured. He’s still reading the script, and nothing is final.

That caution matters. Until contracts are signed, this stays a “talks” story, not a casting announcement.

Sparrow : Overview

Why This Reunion Excites Fans?

Lee Jung Jae and Choi Dong Hoon have history. Their first collaboration was the star-studded 2012 heist blockbuster The Thieves. They followed it with the 2015 period thriller Assassination, a major box-office success. If Sparrow happens, it will be their first project together in 11 years.

Mun Ka Young adds fresh energy. Reports of her offer surfaced earlier the same day, and pairing her with a veteran like Lee Jung Jae could give the film an interesting generational mix. A spy-mystery-crime blend also suggests twists, shifting loyalties and plenty of tension.

Conclusion

Choi Dong Hoon has a gift for ensemble thrillers that feel slick but still emotional. A genre-bending story like this suits his style. Casting rumors can fall apart, of course, so I’m excited but keeping my expectations realistic.
