A Painter, a Sealed Spirit and a Royal Palace in Trouble: “The Painted Soul” Is Now on Viki

Imagine a world where a brushstroke can change what’s real, and the best painters protect the kingdom itself. That’s the starting point of The Painted Soul, a new Korean animation now streaming. It reports that Viki released an extra teaser on October 22, and the series premiered on October 21.

The Painted Soul: The Series

What Is the Story About?

Yun Hwa is an apprentice painter in a world where art has real power. The greatest painters serve Shinpilwon, the royal institution responsible for preserving order through painting. Hoping to pass her final promotion exam, she breaks into a forbidden annex and accidentally awakens Seol Jin, a spirit painter who was sealed away a hundred years ago.

What the New Teaser Shows?

The teaser opens with a mysterious voice describing Seol Jin as kinder than anyone else. After Yun Hwa breaks the barrier holding him, she begs him to take her as his disciple, eager to learn from a legend. But once they become master and apprentice, danger appears, and trouble brews inside the palace. Two lives bound by fate must team up to set the world right.

Why It’s Worth a Watch?

The master-and-disciple setup gives the story an emotional core, while the premise of painting as a form of power gives animators room for striking visuals. If you enjoy fantasy with a historical Korean feel, this is one to add to your list. For background on the art form, see Korean animation on Wikipedia.
