In the ISC High-Performance Seminar 2021, reports and statistics showed that among the top 10 supercomputers majority of them are powered AMD EPYC CPUs. Surpassing Intel’s Xeon chips along the way as well as beating them in the efficiency rates as well.
According to TOP500 and Green500 charts, AMD is currently empowering 3 of the top 10 supercomputers in the whole world. Further reports revealed that combined, they produce a yield of a mammoth 172.2 Petaflops while on the other hand Intel powers two of the top 10 supercomputers who, when combined, produce a yield nearly only 1/3rd of AMD’s combined yield, more specifically 57.9 Petaflops.
However, it is worth mentioning that all the Intel Xeon Chips which empower the supercomputers feature NVIDIA Ampere A100 and Volta V100 GPU.
Lastly, reports concluded that AMD powers 8 out of the top 10 most efficient supercomputers while Intel powers only 2 of them.
