The gates of Schönbrunn Palace are opening one last time. Netflix has dropped the trailer, first-look images and key art for The Empress Season 3, the final chapter of its German period drama. It premieres globally on 12th November 2026.
What Is The Empress Season 3 About?
Franz (Philip Froissant) returns to Vienna a traumatised man after the Sardinian War, weighed down by guilt over the young men lost in battle. Elisabeth (Devrim Lingnau Islamoğlu) fights to save their marriage while arguing for the empire’s future. But Franz’s unfaithfulness and growing resistance at court push her health to a breaking point. She leaves Vienna for a distant island to recover and find her voice.
On that journey she meets Hungarian revolutionary Count Andrássy (new cast member Dejan Bućin). Their meeting sparks a strong intellectual and physical attraction, and Elisabeth must choose between following her heart and being the empress her people need. The series is based on the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria.
