A surgeon with no loyalty to anyone but her patients walks into a hospital that runs on politics. That is the setup of Doctor X, SBS’s upcoming Korean remake of a hit Japanese series, and its first-episode preview is out.

Doctor X: Story

Doctor X is a medical noir starring Kim Ji Won as Gye Soo Jung, a genius surgeon who proves what being a doctor means through skill alone. In the process she “operates” on a corruption-ridden establishment. The drama is based on the Japanese series of the same name, Doctor-X.

What the Preview Shows?

The preview opens with Gye Soo Jung entering an operating room. She later meets surgical intern Park Tae Kyung (Kim Woo Seok) outside the hospital, and when he asks her name, she answers by making a large “X” with her finger. At Guseo University Hospital she keeps up the same boldness, asking in front of the whole medical staff why a certain laparotomy is being performed and flatly refusing to go along with others.

The Hospital Pushes Back

The other doctors worry that this newcomer could shake the foundations of everything they do. Hospital director Boo Seung Kwon (Son Hyun Joo) waves her off with a cold line about a tail that can be cut. Meanwhile Park Tae Kyung is left alone in the operating room, begging someone to explain what happens when everyone leaves. The preview ends with Jang Hee Sook (Lee Jung Eun), head of the medical staffing agency that sent her, calling Gye Soo Jung the agency’s top ace.

Why It’s Worth Watching?

The drama contrasts a lone freelancer’s skill with a system built on seniority and power. Putting the protagonist under an agency rather than the hospital’s own hierarchy also explains why she can afford to stay fearless.

Catch Up First

Kim Ji Won’s Fight for My Way and Kim Woo Seok’s Military Prosecutor Doberman are both on Viki while you wait.
