Google just made its biggest AI move in months. On September 30, 2026, it unveiled Gemini 4 Argon, its new frontier model, but there’s a catch: most of us can’t use it yet.

What Is Gemini 4 Argon?
Google describes Argon as built for deep reasoning across complex, long-running workflows. It targets software engineering, knowledge work and cybersecurity. Google says its own teams already use it for tasks from coding to quantum computing, including optimizing qubits and gates.

Why Is Access Limited?
Google says a model this capable needs a phased release. Argon is going first to selected cybersecurity organisations, who can use it to find and fix flaws in their software before a broader launch. Google is also taking part in the US government’s voluntary pre-release testing for frontier models, and says it is monitoring the model for misuse.
How Good Is It?
According to Google’s own materials, Argon ranks first on Zapier’s AutomationBench with 51.3% and sets a new best on the LVBench long-video test with 91.7%. One analysis of the launch says it beats rivals on 13 of 19 published benchmarks. These figures come from Google, so independent testing will tell the real story. Bloomberg also reported that some insiders doubt it matches the top models from OpenAI and Anthropic.
What It Means for You?
If you’re a developer or business user, expect access through paid plans first. Everyday Gemini app users may need to wait. The pricing suggests Google wants to compete hard on cost.
