Netflix walks into tonight’s 78th Primetime Emmy Awards with numbers that still look intimidating on paper — 111 nominations across 34 titles. But underneath the volume, insiders are calling 2026 a quieter year for the streamer, with rivals like HBO and Apple TV+ crowding the top Drama and Comedy races.

The good news for Netflix fans: limited series are picking up the slack. Beef Season 2 is leading the charge into tonight’s ceremony, and the streamer has already banked a solid haul from the Creative Arts weekend earlier this month.

Already on the Board: 13 Wins and Counting

Before tonight’s ceremony even started, Netflix locked in 13 Creative Arts Emmys, including wins for Remarkably Bright Creatures, Love on the Spectrum Season 4, Beef, The Beast in Me, and Bridgerton. It’s a solid opening tally, but nowhere near the streamer’s 2021 record year, when it took home 44 wins in a single night.

That record year underscores just how far Netflix has come since House of Cards became the first streaming series ever to win a Primetime Emmy back in 2013 — a milestone that changed how the Television Academy treated streaming altogether.

Whether tonight adds to Netflix’s trophy case or hands the spotlight to HBO and Apple, one thing’s certain: the era of Netflix casually sweeping every category is over, and that’s actually making award season more interesting.
