Broken Up But Not Done Competing: Seo Kang Joon and Ahn Eun-jin’s Awkward Reunion in “A Love Other Than Yours”

Some couples take months to stop acting like a couple. These two didn’t even make it a full day. KBS 2TV’s new melodrama “A Love Other Than Yours” just gave fans a preview that’s equal parts cringe and charming: Namgoong Ho and Lee Mi-do, who ended a 10-year relationship in episode one, are back together in episode two — this time pretending to be engaged for the sake of winning event prizes.

A Love Other Than Yours: Episode 2

How They Ended Up Back Together

According to Soompi’s report, episode one ended with Lee Mi-do calling off her decade-long relationship with Namgoong Ho, who had been ready to propose. The breakup, however, didn’t erase ten years of muscle memory — the very next morning, Namgoong Ho instinctively phoned her to wake her up, and the two automatically exchanged their usual “I love you” before catching themselves mid-sentence.

That same lingering habit sets up episode two’s central conflict: the newly-split exes agree to pose as an engaged couple in a promotional event, purely to compete for prizes. It’s an odd, funny premise, but one that fits the show’s larger theme of two people who know each other intimately trying to figure out what that intimacy is actually worth now.

The Competitive Streak Takes Over

What makes the setup work, per the preview stills, is that neither of them treats it lightly. Lee Mi-do makes it clear from the start that any winnings get split 50-50, and Namgoong Ho is quick to hold her to it. Ten years of dating means they know each other’s habits and preferences better than almost anyone — which should make the event’s “couples quiz” an easy win.

Except it isn’t. The stills tease unexpected questions that catch both of them off guard, hinting that even after a decade together, there may be gaps in what they actually know about each other. That tension — assumed familiarity meeting real uncertainty — is exactly the emotional territory this drama has been built around since its premiere.

Why This Scene Matters for the Bigger Story

Rather than rushing toward a clean resolution or a dramatic reconciliation, “A Love Other Than Yours” seems intent on lingering in the messy, in-between space right after a long relationship ends. Making the exes team up almost immediately — for something as low-stakes as event prizes — is a clever way to keep their chemistry alive on screen without forcing an artificial reunion.

Fans wanting to catch the full episode can tune in on September 13 at 9:20 PM KST on KBS 2TV, with international viewers able to stream via Amazon Prime Video.
