Sergio Busquets has been permitted to return to the Spain squad after testing negative for COVID-19 ahead of their Euro 2020 encounter against Poland. The FC Barcelona midfielder was one of two players to catch the virus earlier this month, sending Spain’s entire squad into isolation.

After a while now, Busquets has finally been granted approval to reunite with his teammates. He will now be flying to Sevilla with them for Saturday’s Group E match against Poland. On Friday, the Spain national team’s Twitter account posted photos of Busquets embracing Enrique and some of his teammates as he received a warm welcome back into the group.

The 32-year-old holding midfielder is on the same page with his side’s most experienced players. He has proved to be a leader for his club and country, and his presence will be a huge boost for both Enrique and Spain.

All the members of the Spain squad have thus been inoculated with their respective COVID-19 vaccinations. After a disheartening stalemate against Sweden in their opening fixture, La Roja will be hoping for their first win of the tournament against Poland, who now sit at the bottom of group E.

Although Luis Enrique’s side enjoyed 86 percent of the ball possession and dominated the entirety of the game in the process, they were unable to break down Sweden’s defense. They did create a few incisive goal-scoring opportunities, but Alvaro Morata found himself incapable of converting Spain’s best chance of the game. He understandably received the anticipated criticism for the same.

Amidst the criticism mounted on the shoulders of the Juventus striker, Luis Enrique would be under immense pressure if he plans to start him again. Spain are in desperate need of the three points against Poland, who lost their first game to Slovakia. If not so, their qualification hopes would move under serious jeopardy.
