Netflix has officially closed the book on Ransom Canyon. After two seasons, the Texas-set romantic drama starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly won’t be getting a third outing, ending Staten and Quinn’s story sooner than fans hoped.

The Numbers Tell the Story

Ransom Canyon’s cancellation comes down to a familiar Netflix calculation: cost versus performance. While the creative changes made for Season 2 reportedly landed better internally, viewership told a different story. The show opened its second season to roughly 4.1 million views in its first week, a steep drop from Season 1’s opening week of 7.2 million views.

That decline continued throughout the season. Ransom Canyon Season 2 wrapped its run with about 12.3 million completed views and 76.1 million viewing hours, spending just three weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10 before dropping off entirely.

Ransom Canyon Season 1 vs Season 2: Weekly Viewership

Week	Season 1 Views	Season 2 Views
Week 1	7,200,000	4,100,000
Week 2	9,400,000	5,500,000
Week 3	4,200,000	2,700,000
Week 4	2,500,000	0
Total	23,300,000	12,300,000

How It Stacked Up Against Other Returning Shows

When compared to other Season 2 Netflix titles over their first three weeks, Ransom Canyon landed near the bottom of the pack, trailing far behind hits like Bridgerton and The Witcher, and even finishing behind shows like The Four Seasons. With a budget shaped heavily by its high-profile leads, the math simply didn’t support a renewal — especially for a drama, a genre that tends to get far less leeway than comedy series when it comes to survival.

A Complete Ending, At Least

Unlike many cancellations that leave fans hanging, Ransom Canyon’s ending offers some closure. Showrunner April Blair wrapped the season with Staten and Quinn reunited after a rocky stretch that included Quinn’s brief engagement elsewhere. Some threads, like Ellie’s looming love triangle and Levi’s expanded role, will now go permanently unresolved — but the central romance gets a satisfying finish.

This marks the second high-profile Netflix cancellation for Duhamel, following the streamer’s earlier decision to end Jupiter’s Legacy after one season.
