Rogue Joins Marvel’s X-Men Reboot, Finally Fixing Fox’s 12-Year-Old Mistake

For over a decade, Rogue got sidelined despite being one of the X-Men’s most iconic characters. That changes now — Disney’s X-Men reboot has officially cast Inde Navarrette as Rogue, giving the mutant a real chance to shine after years of being pushed to the background under 20th Century Fox.

What Was Announced?

At D23, Marvel Studios confirmed Inde Navarrette will play Anna Marie, aka Rogue, in Jake Schreier’s upcoming X-Men film — a surprise pick for many fans who expected Cailee Spaeny to land the role. Navarrette, known for her range in the recent horror hit Obsession, joins a growing ensemble cast as Marvel’s mutant saga continues to take shape.

Rogue Joins Marvel: Overview

Why This Casting Matters

Under Fox, Rogue was central to the original X-Men trilogy but was gradually pushed aside, most notably when her pivotal rescue scenes in X-Men: Days of Future Past were cut from the theatrical release over pacing concerns, only restored later in The Rogue Cut. Fox never found a lasting role for her after the franchise’s soft reboot, effectively benching one of its most compelling characters. With Marvel Studios now controlling the rights, Rogue has a real opportunity for a stronger arc, potentially including her classic comic storyline of absorbing Captain Marvel’s powers, an upgrade already popularized by X-Men: The Animated Series and its revival, X-Men ’97.
