East Zone End a 14-Year Wait: How Ishan Kishan’s 270 Sealed the Duleep Trophy 2026-27

Fourteen years is a long time to wait for a trophy, but East Zone made it worth it. Led by a captain’s knock for the ages from Ishan Kishan, East Zone were crowned Duleep Trophy 2026-27 champions after the final against South Zone ended in a draw — with East claiming the title on first-innings lead.

How the Final Played Out

Batting first at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, East Zone piled up a massive 708 runs, powered by Kishan’s marathon 270 off 334 balls, studded with 30 fours and seven sixes. Kumar Kushagra chipped in with a century of his own, giving East a commanding first-innings platform.

South Zone fought back but were bowled out for 336, with skipper Tilak Varma falling just short of a century on 99. East Zone then declared their second innings on 388/7, with Md Kounain Quraishi unbeaten on a maiden first-class century, setting up an unassailable lead of 584 runs heading into the final day. With no outright result possible, the match was drawn — and under domestic knockout rules, the side with the first-innings lead takes the title.
