Ranabaali Teaser: Vijay Deverakonda Transforms Into a Fearsome Warrior Against the British Raj

Period action dramas live or die on how convincingly the lead disappears into the era, and going by the newly released teaser, Vijay Deverakonda has done exactly that for Ranabaali. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the Telugu cinema filmmaker known for Shyam Singha Roy, the film unveils a gritty new look for its lead as it heads toward an October release.

Ranabaali: Overview

What the Teaser Reveals

The roughly two-and-a-half-minute teaser wastes no time establishing its central figure. Vijay Deverakonda plays Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, introduced as a savage, feared warrior who stands defiantly against British colonial forces. Set in the late 1800s, the teaser leans hard into a raw, rustic aesthetic — dust, steel, and a warrior look that’s a clear departure from Deverakonda’s more contemporary roles.

Rashmika Mandanna joins him as the film’s female lead, adding to a growing slate of period and action-heavy projects on her plate this year. Together, the pairing promises a story built around resistance, rebellion, and the kind of larger-than-life folk-hero energy that period actioners in Telugu cinema have leaned into successfully in recent years.

The Preparation Behind the Role

Getting into character for a period warrior role of this scale apparently required serious physical commitment. Reports indicate Vijay Deverakonda underwent six months of intense horseback training ahead of the shoot, a detail that lines up with the rugged, battle-ready presence teased in the trailer. That kind of preparation suggests the film leans heavily into practical action sequences rather than relying solely on visual effects to sell its period setting.

Why This Project Stands Out

Rahul Sankrityan’s direction is worth watching closely here — Shyam Singha Roy demonstrated his ability to blend period storytelling with emotional depth, and Ranabaali appears to be pushing that sensibility into more overtly action-driven territory. Combined with Vijay Deverakonda’s transformation and the film’s anti-colonial resistance narrative, Ranabaali is positioning itself as one of the more ambitious period actioners on the Telugu release calendar this year.
