Brighton agree on club record fee with Stuttgart for Nicolas Gonzalez

Brighton are willing to break their transfer record this summer to try and sign Stuttgart forward Nicolas Gonzalez for a free worth £25 million. That record is currently held by Adam Webster worth £20 million.

Graham Potter’s team had one of the best defensive records of teams in the bottom half. And the only thing that is truly lacking from the team is the quality in attack. The recruitment of Gonzalez this summer could surely address that factor. The Seagulls scored 40 goals throughout the season, and must try to gain better returns this time out.

Gonzalez features for the Argentina national team and is part of their Copa America 2021 squad. His season with Stuttgart was plagued by injuries, which limited his appearances to 15 in the league. He scored six times for Stuttgart in all those appearances.

According to the Guardian, Potter has already agreed a fee with the German club for a transfer this summer. The player would be a huge addition for the Seagulls, and could turn them into contenders for a top half finish this time around.

Interestingly, Brighton have been pursuing the Argentine since last summer. While they bid £10 million for his services following a campaign that saw him score 15 goals in 29 appearances, Stuttgart wanted £16 million. The difference in valuation meant that no transfer went through.

But this time, the Premier League outfit are willing to meet more than double the amount they offered last year to seal the deal.
