“Hanuman Ansh” Enters the Rs 100 Crore Club — And Rewrites Bollywood’s Underdog Rulebook

Nobody saw this coming. A devotional drama made on a shoestring budget of under Rs 3 crore has just crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore nett mark at the Indian box office — and it took just 31 days to get there. “Hanuman Ansh” isn’t just performing well anymore; it’s rewriting what a “small film” can achieve in Bollywood.

The film collected a massive Rs 47 crore in its 5th weekend alone, with Rs 21.50 crore coming on the 5th Sunday — officially making it the biggest 5th weekend of all time for any Hindi film, surpassing “Dhurandhar’s” entire 5th-week total. The film’s running total now stands at Rs 117.35 crore nett, and with momentum this strong, trade trackers are eyeing a run toward Rs 200 crore.

Hanuman Ansh: Week-by-Week Collection Breakdown

Why This Is a Genuine Box Office Miracle

“Hanuman Ansh” opened quietly across roughly 250 screens, earning less than a crore in each of its first two weeks — a start so weak it looked headed for a quiet exit. Then word-of-mouth flipped the script entirely. By week three, audiences beyond its devotional core started showing up, and the film has barely slowed down since, even while sharing screens with heavyweight releases like “Toxic” and “Mirzapur: The Movie.”

With a budget under Rs 3 crore, the film has now become the only Hindi film in that budget range to enter the Rs 100 crore nett club — making it, pound for pound, one of the highest return-on-investment films in Indian cinema history.

What’s Next for the Film

Riding this wave, “Hanuman Ansh” is set for an international release starting the coming weekend, with distribution rights acquired for overseas markets. The film was also made tax-free in Uttarakhand after the state’s Chief Minister watched a screening — a sign of just how far its cultural reach has spread. Plans for a trilogy are already in motion, with the story built around the life of spiritual guru Neem Karoli Baba.
