“Fly High Butterfly” Teaser: A Healing K-Drama About Loving Yourself Anyway

“You should find another job while you’re still young.” “If effort were all it took, wouldn’t everyone be Kim Yuna or BTS?” JTBC’s new teaser doesn’t soften the blow — it leads with exactly the kind of casual cruelty most of us have heard at least once. And that’s precisely the point.

What Is “Fly High Butterfly” About?

Kim Hyang-gi, known for her range across period dramas and youth stories, leads this JTBC weekend series set inside a hair salon called Fly High Butterfly — a space where hairstylists and interns quietly help customers rebuild their sense of self-worth, one visit at a time.

The Teaser’s Message Hits Hard

The new teaser opens with a barrage of judgmental one-liners — comments on appearance, career choices, and lifestyle that most viewers will recognize instantly. But the drama pushes back just as hard, with lines like “Does being overweight mean I can’t manage myself?” and “People are all much the same. Most of us aren’t anything special.” It’s a quiet but firm reminder that imperfection isn’t failure.

The emotional high point comes from Choi Daniel’s character, Ahn Kwang Soo, whose rallying cry of “You can do it!” ties the whole teaser together — less a slogan, more a lifeline for anyone who’s ever felt like giving up.

Why This Kind of Drama Resonates Right Now

“Fly High Butterfly” joins a growing wave of JTBC weekend dramas leaning into genuine emotional honesty rather than high-stakes plot twists — a trend also seen in shows like We Are All Trying Here, which similarly explores feeling left behind by life. These slower, character-driven stories are clearly striking a nerve with audiences craving something more reflective.

When and Where to Watch

“Fly High Butterfly” premieres September 19 at 10:40 p.m. KST on JTBC. While you wait, catch Kim Hyang Gi in “Moment of 18” and Oh Yoon Ah in “Queen of Masks,” both streaming on Viki.
