Sunmi’s Shanghai Fan Meeting Called Off Just Days Before the Big Event

It was supposed to be a long-awaited reunion between Sunmi and her Shanghai fanbase. Instead, fans woke up to disappointing news just days before the event was set to happen.

What Happened with Sunmi?

On September 1, Sunmi’s agency ABYSS Company confirmed that her “Meet SUNMI in Late Summer” fan meeting in Shanghai, originally scheduled for September 5, will no longer take place. The agency explained that after ongoing coordination with the local organizer, a final review of on-ground preparations raised serious doubts about whether the event could be managed smoothly or deliver the quality experience fans deserved.

Rather than risk a subpar show, ABYSS Company made the difficult call to cancel entirely, stating that ensuring a safe, enjoyable environment for both Sunmi and her fans mattered more than pushing forward with an underprepared production.

What Fans Can Expect Next

The agency confirmed that full refunds will be processed through the local organizer and official ticketing platforms, with exact procedures and timelines to be shared separately. Notably, the statement emphasized that Sunmi herself was personally disappointed, as she had been looking forward to reconnecting with her Shanghai fans after a long gap. ABYSS Company also promised to explore a future opportunity for a more carefully planned fan meeting in the city.

Why This Matters

Cancellations like this aren’t uncommon in the world of international K-pop touring, where logistical and venue-readiness issues can emerge close to showtime. For an artist like Sunmi, a former Wonder Girls member turned acclaimed solo act, maintaining consistent quality for her global fanbase remains a top priority — even if it means disappointing news in the short term.
