The latest trend in the summer transfer season appears to be revealing formal signings through indications on social media or the official websites. Manchester United put in a piano emoji to indicate Alexis Sanchez’s signing. Meanwhile, Lazio, who recently signed Maurizio Sarri as their head coach, used a cigarette emoji to confirm the transfer.

FC Barcelona seem to have followed suit, having already announced the official presentation dates for Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia on their website. They took it to a new level with their most recent activity. Memphis Depay’s jersey was made available for purchase on the official Barcelona online store.

The Dutchman has been a talismanic force for Lyon through the years. After being a flop for Manchester United, he wasn’t expected to reach great heights. However, he has witnessed himself go through a renaissance as soon as he started featuring for the French side.

Since the time people began seeing the jersey, the website has been taken down for maintenance due to an error. It appeared to be more of a planned maneuver to get people talking and excited about the transfer than a matter of incompetent website functioning. The fact that the jersey on display was last season’s home shirt merely adds to the suspicion.

Depay’s preferable name on his kit has always been Memphis. The Dutch forward is reportedly close to confirming his move to Barcelona on a free transfer from Olympique Lyonnaise this month. However, there have been some alleged problems with Juventus attempting to raid the deal.

Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele, Francisco Trincao, Ansu Fati, Martin Braithwaite, and Sergio Aguero will be the attacking players that the Catalan club possesses alongside Memphis’ possible signing. Philippe Coutinho’s inclusion would ideally make it to the list, but he has spent the most of his time with the club on the bench, and doesn’t seem likely to be included in a lot of action any further.
