A Love Other Than Yours: Ten Years In, Still Not Simple: Seo Kang Jun on Playing Love That Feels Real

Some love stories start with butterflies. “A Love Other Than Yours” starts a decade in, when the butterflies are long gone and something harder — and more honest — takes their place. Seo Kang Jun just opened up about why that premise pulled him in.

The Role That Hooked Him

“A Love Other Than Yours” follows a couple ten years into their relationship as familiar comfort gives way to unexpected emotional turbulence. Seo Kang Jun plays Namgoong Ho, a man who’s spent a full decade devoted to one person, Lee Mi Do (played by Ahn Eun Jin), quietly building toward a future with her.

According to Seo, what first drew him in was the character himself. He described Namgoong Ho as gentle and composed, someone who bends to reality without ever compromising his core values — less like a scripted character and more like someone who could genuinely exist. He also explained his broader pull toward the project: unlike shows built around fantasy or escapism, this story stays grounded in something real, which made him feel personally connected to it as a story about love, life, and growth.

Sacrifice as the Character’s Core

Seo Kang Jun summed up Namgoong Ho’s approach to love in one word: sacrifice. He described the character as someone who works, saves, and quietly tolerates life’s frustrations, all in service of the future he’s building with Lee Mi Do — a person who would do anything for his partner. To bring that across, Seo intentionally kept his performance understated, aiming to let the character’s inner conflict show through his eyes rather than dialogue, and thinking carefully about the emotional beats the script left unwritten.

Chemistry With Ahn Eun Jin

Asked about working with his co-star, Seo Kang Jun didn’t hold back his enthusiasm, describing an immediate, effortless connection between them. The pair spent time discussing how to portray the quiet comfort unique to long-term couples — the kind of understanding that doesn’t need words — and he noted their instincts consistently lined up, even in emotionally demanding scenes.
