The Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland has been suspended due to a medical emergency involving Christian Eriksen. The 29-year-old fell to the ground shortly before halftime and presumably went unconscious as well.
The medical team was seen giving him CPR treatment, as his teammates formed a circle around him to guard his privacy. The reaction from both his fellow players and the fans was not positive, as the stadium full of people fell silent as well, with many fans and players in tears.
After about 5-10 minutes, the Finland team walked off the field as the match was suspended while Eriksen was stretchered off the pitch, guarded by towels and his teammates. Simon Kjaer and Kasper Schmeichel were also seen consoling Eriksen’s wife, who had come to the touchline following the incident.
The player went down without anybody around him; no challenge was involved whatsoever. Referee Anthony Taylor stopped the game immediately and both players signalled for medical staff to come as soon as possible. And within minutes, football became absolutely irrelevant.
We, along with the entire footballing world are sending out prayers for recovery for Christian Eriksen who is one of the best players that Denmark has ever produced.
