Small Film, Big Surprise: Hanuman Ansh Is Quietly Closing the Gap on Toxic at the Box Office

Nobody expected a devotional drama to become one of the most talked-about box office stories of the season, but Hanuman Ansh is proving just that. The film based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba is on an unstoppable run, and it’s now closing in on a much bigger release in daily collections.

A Record-Breaking Day 23

Hanuman Ansh recorded its biggest single day of the entire run on Day 23, pulling in Rs. 9.50 crore, a massive 60 percent jump from the previous day’s already strong Rs. 6 crore. That pushed its two-day total for the fourth weekend to Rs. 15.50 crore, a number that feels almost unbelievable considering how rocky the film’s first two weeks were.

What makes this even more remarkable is the comparison with Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, the big-budget Yash and Kiara Advani starrer currently dominating headlines. On the same Saturday, Toxic collected Rs. 13.50 crore, just 30 percent higher than Hanuman Ansh, a shockingly small gap between a major theatrical release and a modest devotional drama.

Hanuman Ansh: Box Office Collections So Far

From a Quiet Start to a Word-of-Mouth Hit

Hanuman Ansh didn’t exactly announce itself with a bang. It opened to just around Rs. 10 lakh nett and limped through its first week with roughly Rs. 90 lakh in total. Things got even tougher in week two, as Independence Day releases soaked up screens and audience attention. But the third week marked a dramatic turnaround, with the film crossing Rs. 10 crore nett for that stretch alone, and it’s only picked up steam since.

This kind of trajectory, a slow-burn climb driven entirely by word-of-mouth rather than star power or marketing muscle, is rare in Hindi cinema, making Hanuman Ansh’s run feel genuinely special.

What’s Next for the Film

With Sunday collections expected to bring another spike, the film is projected to close its fourth weekend around Rs. 25 crore, pushing its overall total to roughly Rs. 37 crore. Having already secured a Clean Hit tag, trade watchers suggest a Blockbuster verdict isn’t out of the question if this momentum holds through its theatrical run.

Films riding this kind of unexpected wave are rare, but Hanuman Ansh now joins the ranks of similar surprise successes seen in Indian cinema over the past year, proving that devotional storytelling still has a dedicated and growing audience.
