Danny Ramirez Joins Michael B. Jordan And Austin Butler In Miami

Danny Ramirez Joins Michael B. Jordan And Austin Butler In Miami. The Miami Vice ’85 casting carousel just got hotter. Danny Ramirez officially boards the reboot alongside Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, and the trio now represents one of the most-watched ensemble builds in Hollywood’s 2027 release corridor.

With cameras reportedly set to roll in late 2026, the production is racing to lock its on-screen chemistry before the window closes.

Who is Danny Ramirez and why does his casting matter for Miami Vice ’85?

Danny Ramirez steps into a Miami Vice ’85 ensemble already stacked with two of Hollywood’s fastest-rising leading men. The 33-year-old actor reportedly broke through as fan-favorite Joaquin Torres in Captain America: Brave New World and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, then cemented his action credentials in Top Gun: Maverick.

His joining signals Universal’s intent to build a deep bench around Jordan and Butler rather than a two-man show, giving director Joseph Kosinski room to populate the sun-bleached Vice squad with credible physicality. Ramirez brings bilingual fluency and a Marvel-tested audience familiarity that travels well in both domestic and Latin American territories, a factor that matters when a $100 million-plus action tentpole is trying to offset its budget.

How did Austin Butler land his role in the Miami Vice reboot?

Austin Butler secured his prominent casting role following his critically acclaimed performance in the Warner Bros. Pictures film Elvis (2022), the Baz Luhrmann biopic that earned him an Oscar nomination and reset his commercial ceiling overnight.

That Elvis trajectory is the single biggest reason Butler is now franchise insurance for a $200 million Universal tentpole — studios learned that Luhrmann’s lead could anchor prestige drama and multiplex action in the same breath. The Miami Vice ’85 team is essentially betting that the same audience appetite that drove Elvis to over $287 million worldwide will follow Butler into Sonny Crockett-era undercover work, this time opposite a creative partner in Jordan who carries similar post-Creed heat.

What is Michael B. Jordan’s role both in front of and behind the camera?

Michael B. Jordan is positioned as both the film’s co-lead and a producer through his banner Outlier Society, a dual mandate that gives the actor meaningful leverage over casting, tone, and final cut conversations. Outlier Society’s producing footprint now includes Creed III and the upcoming The Thomas Crown Affair remake, making Jordan one of the few Black leads with both franchise draw and producer credits at the studio level.

On-screen, Jordan is set to play the Ricardo Tubbs half of the Crockett-Tubbs partnership, the detective role originally embodied by Philip Michael Thomas in the 1984-1989 NBC series. His producing weight helps explain why Universal reportedly greenlit a budget north of $200 million for what is, fundamentally, a television adaptation.

When does Miami Vice ’85 start filming and when can audiences see it?

Principal photography for Miami Vice ’85 is slated to begin in late 2026 under the backing of major studio partners, positioning the film for a projected global theatrical release window in 2027. That late-2026 start gives Universal a tight runway — roughly 10 to 12 months to shoot, score, and execute a global marketing blitz before a summer or holiday 2027 frame.

The compressed timeline is deliberate: Jordan and Butler are both in the middle of competing commitments, and the studio wants to capitalize on Butler’s Elvis halo while it still glows. A late-2026 camera start also lets the production take advantage of Miami’s winter shoulder season, when humidity drops and the city’s waterfront doubles convincingly for both 1980s glamour and modern grit.

What makes this Miami Vice different from the 2006 Colin Farrell version?

The 2006 Michael Mann film leaned into visual maximalism and a single-tone mood, with Jamie Foxx and Farrell playing it cool and operatic. Miami Vice ’85 instead leans into the decade’s specific cultural texture — pastel blazers, Crockett’s white Testarossa, Crockett and Tubbs as working vice cops rather than globe-trotting spies.

Jordan’s Outlier Society producing credit suggests a more grounded, character-forward take than Mann’s hyper-stylized 2006 treatment. Add Ramirez as a younger squad member, and the project is building an intergenerational dynamic the Farrell-Foxx version never attempted. For a 2027 audience that grew up on the original NBC reruns, that nostalgia hook — Crockett’s loafers, Tubbs’ Armani, the Crockett-Tubbs banter — may matter more than any action set piece Universal can stage.

Danny Ramirez joins a Miami Vice ’85 ensemble that already had Jordan and Butler locked, and the trio is now the highest-profile casting combination Universal has assembled for a 2027 tentpole.
