Four years after her last K-drama series, Son Ye-jin is making her comeback in a big way. Netflix’s The Scandal — a small-screen take on the beloved 2003 film Untold Scandal — has locked in a September 18, 2026 release date, and the star-studded cast promises one of the season’s most talked-about period dramas.

A Dangerous Game of Seduction

The Scandal centers on Lady Cho, a woman whose sharp wit and skill far outpace what’s expected of her in Joseon-era women’s quarters, and Cho Won, the era’s most notorious playboy. Their reckless wager pulls in a third woman, the widowed and virtuous Hui-yeon, dragging her into a spiral of desire and deception that was never meant to include her. Directed by Jung Ji Woo, known for genre-hopping work across romance and drama, the eight-episode series adapts the same forbidden-love premise that made the original film a landmark of Korean cinema.

A Reunion Worth the Wait

Son Ye-jin, beloved for her lead role in Crash Landing on You, takes on Lady Cho in her first K-drama series in roughly four years. Ji Chang-wook, last seen in Welcome to Samdal-ri, plays Cho Won, while Nana steps into the role of Hui-yeon. Han Sun-hwa and Chani round out the supporting cast.

Why It’s a Must-Watch

Untold Scandal remains one of the most acclaimed Korean films of its era, and adapting it into a series gives the story room to build tension across a full season rather than a single runtime. Pairing that pedigree with Son Ye-jin’s long-awaited return and Ji Chang-wook’s proven range makes The Scandal one of Netflix’s most anticipated K-drama releases this fall.
