“The Scandal” First Look: Son Ye Jin, Ji Chang Wook & Nana’s Forbidden Bet Is Coming

Netflix just dropped the first teaser and posters for its most talked-about upcoming K-drama, and honestly, it looks deliciously scandalous. Titled The Scandal, the series reimagines a classic tale of seduction and betrayal through the lens of the Joseon Dynasty, and the star cast alone is enough to make this a must-watch this September.

What’s “The Scandal” All About?

The story follows Lady Cho, a woman whose sharp mind and talents stretch far beyond what’s expected of her in the women’s quarters, as she enters a dangerous wager with Cho Won, notorious as Joseon’s greatest playboy. Their risky bet pulls in an innocent third party, Hui Yeon, who unknowingly becomes the target of their game — and things spiral from there.

A Story Rooted In A Literary Classic

Here’s the interesting part: The Scandal is actually a Joseon-era adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons, the 1782 French novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos that has inspired countless film and stage adaptations worldwide. Director Jung Ji Woo said he didn’t want a simple romance structure, instead building the story around characters grappling with real self-awareness and identity, which hints at a much deeper emotional core than your typical period drama.

The Teaser Sets The Tone

The newly released teaser shows Bukchon, the elite noble district, about to be turned upside down. Lady Cho, who sees through everyone’s intentions, makes her proposal, and Cho Won accepts with unmistakable desire in his eyes, while Hui Yeon’s fear plays out through tense cross-cutting. The visuals lean heavily into moody, painting-like aesthetics, with sweeping red flowers and blooming plum blossoms setting a seductive, almost theatrical tone throughout.

Why This Cast Has Everyone Excited

Son Ye Jin, Ji Chang Wook, and Nana are all major names individually, but seeing them together in one high-stakes period drama is a rare treat. Their character posters alone — each staged like classical portraits — have already got fans buzzing about how the love triangle will unfold once the series drops.

The Scandal premieres globally on Netflix on September 18. For more K-drama previews, cast updates, and entertainment news, check out TechnoSports Entertainment for daily coverage.
