LightFury Games, an India-based game development studio, has announced that Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has invested in the company and will feature as an officially licensed player in its upcoming title, *eCricket*. The announcement coincides with the release of the game’s “Ultimate Squad” teaser and the confirmation of a phased Closed Beta rollout scheduled for September 2026.

Sharma becomes the eighth prominent cricketer to back LightFury Games, joining a roster of investors that includes MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Tilak Varma, and Sai Sudharsan. His involvement extends beyond an in-game presence, with the studio anticipating his insights will contribute to the game’s development.

LightFury : Rohit Sharma’s eCricket Gathers Momentum Ahead of Beta

The “Ultimate Squad” teaser for eCricket has garnered significant attention, surpassing one million views shortly after its release. LightFury Games also reported over 300,000 pre-launch sign-ups, indicating user interest in the title.

The Closed Beta, commencing in September 2026, will allow a select group of players to access the game and provide feedback. This community input is expected to inform the game’s refinement prior to its wider commercial launch.

Game Features and Licensed Content

*eCricket* aims to provide a competitive cricket experience, featuring over 700 officially licensed cricketers from around the world for its “Ultimate Squad” game mode. This mode allows players to assemble custom teams and engage in strategic matches.

Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has also been confirmed as one of *eCricket*’s official commentators. His inclusion is designed to enhance the in-game experience with familiar voices.

Rohit Sharma emphasized the alignment of values, stating, “High-performance sport is built on preparation, precision and the pursuit of continuous improvement. I see those same values reflected in what LightFury Games is building with eCricket. Their ambition to create a world-class cricket experience from India is compelling, and I’m excited to support that vision.”

Karan Shroff, Co-founder and CEO of LightFury Games, highlighted the studio’s objective: “Our ambition is to show that India can build defining game franchises for the world. *eCricket* is our commitment to creating an authentic, competitive and technologically advanced cricket experience – made in India, for the world.” Shroff further noted the importance of community involvement in the beta phase, aiming for an experience shaped by its player base.
