Some dramas start with excitement. This one started with reflection. tvN’s highly anticipated period spy romance 100 Days of Deception held its first script reading — and before a single line was read, the cast and crew paused for a moment of silence to honor Korean independence activists, setting the tone for a story rooted in real historical weight.

Directed by Yoo In Shik of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and “Dr. Romantic” fame, the drama stars Kim You Jung and Park Jinyoung in lead roles, set during the Japanese occupation of Korea.

The Story So Far

Kim You Jung plays Lee Ga Gyeong, Gyeongseong’s (present-day Seoul) top pickpocket, who disguises herself as an interpreter trainee to infiltrate the Japanese Government-General of Korea. Her journey takes her from a bold young woman dreaming of America to a spy for the independence resistance group Gugukdan, navigating escalating danger along the way.

Kim You Jung and Park Jinyoung lead the cast as a pickpocket-turned-spy and an elite interpreter with a hidden past.

Park Jinyoung takes on the role of Kim Tae Woong, also known as Sato Hideo — a polished, multilingual interpreter and the adopted son of the Government-General’s Inspector-General. Behind his composed exterior lies a private sorrow that drives much of his character’s tension.

A Stacked Supporting Cast

The drama also features Kim Hyun Joo as a Gugukdan sniper pursuing revenge, Lee Moo Saeng as a journalist secretly working for the resistance, and Jin Sun Kyu as the story’s chilling first assassination target. Rounding out the ensemble are Lee Ki Young, Choi Duk Moon, Seo Jeong Yeon, Kim In Kwon, and several others playing key Gugukdan members and Government-General officials.

Stories set during colonial-era resistance movements often draw heavily on real historical context to ground their fictional narratives, a storytelling approach reflected in broader discussions of Korea under Japanese rule as a historical period.

What the Production Team Is Saying

With its premiere set for October 10, anticipation is building fast for this blend of espionage, romance, and history.
