Some transfer sagas involve nine-figure fees and months of negotiation. This one is centered around a release clause smaller than a single Champions League matchday bonus. Real Madrid are pushing to sign 19-year-old Racing Santander midfielder Sergio Martínez, according to Diario AS, with the Spanish giants eyeing a remarkably modest release clause to secure one of LaLiga’s most talked-about young talents.
The Bargain Buy Everyone’s Chasing
Martínez, born in Laredo, Cantabria, signed a contract extension with Racing running until 2029 — but crucially, that deal carries a release clause of just €3 million, a price that’s turned heads across Spanish football’s biggest clubs.

Why the Buzz Is So Real
Martínez has drawn interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona since earlier in the year, but his creative ability and composure on the ball fully announced themselves with a goal against Villarreal on his LaLiga debut. Reports suggest Real Madrid’s plan, if the deal goes through, would see him initially join Castilla, the club’s reserve side, before a potential first-team pathway.
What’s Next
With Racing keen to hold firm despite the modest clause, and Madrid reportedly still weighing whether to trigger it, Martínez’s next move could come quickly given his rapid rise. Fans can follow official transfer confirmations via the Real Madrid official website.
