The inaugural Esports Nations Cup (ENC), a global competition organized by the Esports Foundation (https://esportsfoundation.org/) (EF), has been postponed by one year to November 2027. The event, initially slated for November 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was delayed following an assessment of the broader regional situation and consultations with key stakeholders.

The Esports Foundation stated that the decision aims to provide “certainty and stability” for the more than 100 participating national teams, game publishers, partners, and fans. The organization emphasized that the unprecedented international scope of the ENC necessitated the adjustment in response to current regional uncertainties. Despite the postponement of this specific event, Saudi Arabia’s capacity to host major events remains unaffected, with other sporting and entertainment schedules proceeding as planned.

Esports Nations Cup: Overview

Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation, addressed the decision, stating, “The decision to postpone the Esports Nations Cup was not taken lightly. The response from National Team Partners, publishers, players and communities around the world has shown us how much potential this competition has. We owe them an inaugural ENC delivered under the right conditions and at the level this idea deserves.”

Reichert affirmed that the foundation’s commitment to the ENC and the burgeoning national esports ecosystems remains steadfast. The existing ENC Development Fund commitments to National Team Partners will continue, as will related ecosystem development programs and ongoing collaborations with publishers and other stakeholders. The EF plans to work directly with partners to manage the implications of the revised timeline and facilitate the transition towards the 2027 competition.

The ENC is designed to integrate with the existing esports landscape, aiming to establish new pathways for athletes, bolster national esports development, and cultivate new forms of fandom through international competition. Over 100 countries and territories have already secured official partner status, preparing to feature top players across multiple game titles.

The Esports Foundation anticipates providing further clarity on the revised competition calendar, qualification pathways, and other logistical adjustments in the coming weeks as it continues to engage with its partners and stakeholders.
