‘Gentle Monster’: Léa Seydoux’s Cannes-Acclaimed Drama Gets Its Netflix Release Date

Fresh off a standing ovation at Cannes, Gentle Monster has locked in its release plans, and the film is already generating awards buzz. Netflix acquired the drama as part of a four-film Cannes 2026 haul, and it’s shaping up as a major awards-season vehicle for star Léa Seydoux.

Directed by Marie Kreutzer (Corsage), the film explores the devastating aftermath a family faces when a husband is arrested on serious criminal charges, told through his wife’s emotional journey toward the truth. It’s a heavy, unflinching drama, and critics have responded strongly — the film currently sits at 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers praising Seydoux’s performance as one of her most demanding roles yet.

Gentle Monster: Overview

Why It’s Getting Awards Buzz

The film marks a career milestone for Seydoux, who sings on-screen for the first time. Kreutzer has said the story was inspired by real investigative journalism, and that researching it left her deeply shaken and changed how she saw the world around her. That emotional weight appears to have translated on-screen — Screen Daily called Seydoux’s performance genuinely impressive, and multiple outlets are already floating the film as a contender for Best International Feature.

Where and When to Watch

Gentle Monster hits select theaters on October 30 before streaming on Netflix November 18 in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. It’s also set to screen as a special presentation at TIFF this fall.
