Ryan Bertrand is expected to join Leicester City this summer, after spending seven years at St Mary’s and making over 200 appearances. The player formerly featured for Chelsea, and was part of the squad that won the 2012 Champions League, and subsequent 2013 Europa League.
Brendan Rodgers, being a part of Chelsea in the past, knows Bertrand and is expected to link up with him at the King Power Stadium. The Englishman is expected to compete with Thomas Justin in the left-back position for game time, and will possibly make Leicester even better than they are now.
Arsenal were also in talks to try and persuade Bertrand to return to London. However, they will miss out on the chance now that he has agreed to join Leicester as a free agent.
The Gunners let Sead Kolasinac return to Schalke on loan last summer, and the player has no future at the club. Hence, another option for left-back is needed with Kieran Tierney being the only fit player in that position. And although the Scottish international is no doubt doing very well, Mikel Arteta needs options for rotation.
While Arsenal’s 8th placed finish will limit the amount of money they can spend in the market this summer, Ryan Bertrand could have been signed for free. And they will hence, have to turn to other targets for left-back this summer.
