Now that Zinedine Zidane has officially left the Real Madrid job, the post is vacant for the time being. Max Allegri was the name that was the most heavily linked with the bench at the Bernabeu.
However, the Italian has returned to Juventus following a lack of communication from Real Madrid. That leaves us with four major candidates to take over the job.
Xabi Alonso
The former Real Madrid midfielder has been linked with the job, although he has only had one season in management. The Spaniard has guided Real Sociedad B into the second tier, and although he has the knowledge of how things work at the club, it is a little too soon for him.
Mauricio Pochettino
The Argentinian has been linked with the Madrid job in the past, and given his ability to speak Spanish and his knowledge of the La Liga with Espanyol, a move could be logical. However, considering that he has only been in charge at PSG for one season and has a good project laid out for him, it could be a longshot to see him at the Bernabeu.
Antonio Conte
Inter Milan had to dismiss their Scudetto winning manager only a few days ago. The reason behind it being a disagreement between Conte and the board regarding how things should go forward. The 51-year-old is the most experienced candidate on the list and could bring a new kind of discipline and fire to a burned out Madrid side.
Raul
Real Madrid’s legendary forward has been poised as the favourite to replace Zinedine Zidane as the first team manager in recent manager. Raul has done good work with the youth team, and displays the much needed passion on the sidelines, as well as in training. And with the dismissal of Allegri as an option, it seems ever so likely that Raul will secure the job despite his lack of experience.
