The Vampire Lestat Episode 6 Ending Explained: Who Cut Off Their Heads?

Just when Louis and Lestat finally seem ready to let go of decades of guilt, someone takes it literally — off with their heads. Episode 6 of The Vampire Lestat (Season 3 of Interview with the Vampire), titled “Montreal,” closes on one of the show’s most brutal cliffhangers yet, and the reveal of who’s behind it changes everything heading into the finale.

The Vampire Lestat : Overview

A Rare Moment of Peace, Then Betrayal

The episode opens on unusually warm footing for Louis and Lestat, who spend the hour running errands and bickering with the easy affection of two people who never fully got over each other. That peace deepens during a seance arranged by Lestat, where the powerful witch Merrick Mayfair channels the spirit of Claudia, the vampire daughter both men lost years earlier. Claudia’s return is anything but comforting — she unleashes years of buried resentment at Louis before turning her grief toward her missing love Madeline and vanishing again.

Shaken but strangely closer, Louis and Lestat share an honest conversation afterward, seemingly ready to move past decades of guilt. It’s a rare, tender moment for the show — and exactly the kind of calm that signals disaster is coming.

Who Decapitates Louis and Lestat?

As the two vampires walk together in a Montreal park, unaware they’re being watched, masked attackers ambush them and cut off both their heads. The episode’s final reveal confirms the attackers are Armand and Daniel Molloy, working together as part of a broader effort to stop Lestat from triggering the Great Conversion — the catastrophic shift between vampires and humans that’s loomed over the season.

Whether Louis and Lestat are truly dead remains unclear. In the world of Anne Rice‘s vampire mythology, from which the series draws its source material, vampires can survive injuries that would kill a human outright, leaving their fate deliberately ambiguous heading into the season finale. The attack also conveniently derails Lestat’s planned Montreal concert, where thousands of vampires had gathered for the very event Armand was trying to prevent.
