There’s a special kind of dread that comes from realizing the friendly guy next door isn’t who he seems. KBS 2TV’s new thriller “The Husband“ just weaponized that fear, and Kim Dae Myeung is making it terrifyingly believable.

The drama follows Namkoong Min as a man on the edge of divorce who gets pulled into a life-or-death battle with a criminal to save his wife. But it’s Kim Dae Myeung’s villain who’s stealing every scene.

The Man With Two Faces

Kim Dae Myeung plays Noh Man Hee, the ruthless kidnapper behind Go Se Yoon’s (Lee Seol) abduction. In the earlier episode, when Go Se Yoon’s mother offered him ₩3 billion (roughly $2 million) to release her daughter, it didn’t calm him down — it enraged him. He strangled Go Se Yoon in front of her horrified loved ones, then framed Kang Tae Joo (Namkoong Min) by leaking an incriminating video to the police.

Newly released stills for episodes 3 and 4 dig deeper into his unsettling duality:

Public Face	Private Face
Helps an elderly neighbor fix her computer	Threatens someone menacingly over the phone
Smiles warmly waiting for takeout	Monitors his victim through a screen
Comes across as harmless and kind	Wears a mask while committing crimes

That contrast is exactly what makes a villain memorable — and it’s a storytelling trick Korean thrillers have mastered for years, drawing heavily from the conventions of the broader Korean drama tradition, known for its slow-burn tension and morally layered characters.

The Husband: When To Watch

Episode 3 of “The Husband” airs July 11 at 9:20 p.m. KST, and fans looking for more of Kim Dae Myeung in the meantime can catch him in “The Art of Negotiation” on Viki.

Why This Villain Works

Noh Man Hee isn’t scary because he’s monstrous — he’s scary because he’s ordinary. That’s the oldest trick in psychological thrillers, and Kim Dae Myeung is executing it with unnerving precision. Expect episodes 3 and 4 to lean even further into that unpredictability.
