Freddy Fazbear Checks Into Netflix This August

The animatronics are coming home — just not to Peacock this time. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Blumhouse’s box office smash sequel, is officially set to haunt Netflix US starting August 3, 2026, following Universal’s standard streaming rollout deal.

Why the Fast Turnaround?

Universal’s movies typically follow a strict “Pay-1” windowing system — four months exclusively on Peacock, followed by a rotation to Netflix. FNAF 2 stuck to that exact script, and now, precisely four months after its Peacock debut, it’s Netflix’s turn. Once live, the film will stream on Netflix for ten months before cycling back to Peacock for the final stretch of its 18-month deal — part of a broader arrangement where Universal’s live-action slate now moves at the same accelerated pace as Illumination and DreamWorks’ animated titles.

What the Sequel Is About

Picking up a year after the first film’s events, the story follows former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) trying to shield Mike’s younger sister Abby (Piper Rubio) from the dark truth behind Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. When Abby sneaks off to reunite with her animatronic “friends,” she unknowingly triggers a fresh nightmare. Matthew Lillard returns as the infamous William Afton, joined by newcomers McKenna Grace, Wayne Knight, and Skeet Ulrich.

Critics stayed lukewarm, largely due to the film leaning heavily into dense video-game lore, but that did little to dent its commercial success — proving once again that Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise remains a genuine box office force.
