Platform	Netflix
Total Episodes	8 (full season drop)
Showrunner	Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys)
Based On	Laura Ingalls Wilder’s novel series

What’s the Story This Time?

Season 1 follows the Ingalls family as they establish their “new forever” outside the small but quickly developing town of Independence, facing the harsh conditions of 1800s prairie life — fever, wolves, and fire among them. Unlike the original 1974 series, which centered on father Charles, this adaptation shifts focus to young Laura’s perspective, staying closer to Wilder’s own semi-autobiographical books. The series also expands its scope by centering the Osage Nation’s experience alongside the Ingalls family’s story.

Who’s in the Cast?

Alice Halsey leads as Laura Ingalls, with Luke Bracey as Charles “Pa” Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes as older sister Mary. The ensemble also includes Warren Christie, Jocko Sims, and Alyssa Wapanatâhk in key roles tied to the Osage storyline.

Why This Reboot Matters

Reimagining a beloved 1970s classic is always risky, but Netflix’s early Season 2 renewal signals real confidence. With a showrunner known for balancing sweeping drama with emotional depth, and a broader, more inclusive lens on frontier history, this adaptation looks poised to honor the source material while telling a more complete story.
