Ranveer Singh’s ₹300 Crore Zombie Thriller ‘Pralay’ Heads to Australia — Bollywood’s Most Daring Bet Is Coming

Fresh off the blockbuster success of Dhurandhar, Ranveer Singh isn’t taking a breather. He’s going full zombie mode — and taking Bollywood somewhere it has never truly gone before.

Pralay, the ambitious zombie thriller directed by debutant filmmaker Jai Mehta, is set to go on floors in September 2026, with a major portion of the shoot planned in Australia. This is big news for Indian cinema fans — and even bigger for the genre.

Pralay — Everything We Know So Far

What’s the Film About?

Pralay revolves around a married couple fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian Mumbai — a premise that blends raw emotional stakes with large-scale action and VFX-heavy horror. Think of it as Bollywood’s answer to World War Z, but with a distinctly desi soul.

The film will rely heavily on VFX, and director Jai Mehta along with his team are actively working on the screenplay, visual detailing, and the larger zombie universe. Ranveer too has been involved in creative discussions on a day-to-day basis.

According to Wikipedia’s overview of zombie films, the genre has produced some of cinema’s most iconic blockbusters globally — but remains largely unexplored in mainstream Bollywood, making Pralay a genuinely unprecedented proposition.

Why This Film Matters?

Mounted on an estimated budget of ₹300 crore, Pralay is set to be the most expensive standalone film of Ranveer Singh’s career, making it one of the biggest bets in Bollywood’s genre space. The actor has chosen to back a first-time director — which, given the scale, is a remarkable show of faith in fresh vision.

Pre-production is currently underway in full swing in Australia, with the team bringing in technicians who have previously worked on several international projects. pinkvilla
